More and more family arrived.. filling up
the vacant seats.. joining the rest of us in
the waiting game we watched the beautiful
sun rise in the sky overlooking Hilton Field
at Fort Jackson SC.

Mothers, Fathers, Wives, Husbands,
daughters, sons, grandparents and various
other family members sat together in
anticipation of the arrival of our soldiers.

Our eyes all focused forward... all
looking.. waiting... waiting...
We sat on the bleachers waiting...
waiting.. many of us had been there
for several hours.. arriving in the
dark.  We were too excited to sleep...
wanting.. needing.. to be that much
closer to our soldiers. You could feel
the excitement in the crisp fall air as
we waited.. and waited.
Then someone noticed movement... all eyes stared into the empty
field as if we could will our loved ones to appear. If you looked
real hard you could see them... behind the line of trees across the
field... they too were waiting.. waiting...
Then the smoke....
and here they came!.. Over 1,000  US Soldiers...
"our" Soldiers came out of the smoke...  storming Hilton field
through the smoke !  Through tear filled eyes we watched in awe as
Company A - B - C - D - E - and F ran towards us.

such a breathtaking awesome sight !
D-Company
